Official Contest Rules and Regulations (the “Contest Rules”)

1. The Shop1km Holiday Gift Basket Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by traffic marketing + design inc. the owner of Shop1km.

2. No purchase is necessary to enter this contest or win the Prize. Purchase will not increase your chance of winning. To enter with no purchase necessary, please send an essay of not less than 500 words on the subject of “Why Shopping Local is Important” to

3. Contest commences on November 18, 2019 at 12:01 AM (EST) and closes on December 15, 2019 at 11:59pm (EST) (the “Contest Period”).

4. All entries must be received on or before December 15, 2019 at 11:59pm (EST)

5. Entries submitted through fraudulent means or in any way tampered with, incorrect, unclear, forged, mutilated, illegible, indecipherable or mechanically reproduced may be disqualified at the sole discretion of traffic marketing + design inc.

6. Limit one entry per person, per valid e-mail address.

7. traffic marketing + design inc. is not responsible for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, illegible or delayed for any reason.


8.1 To enter and be eligible to win you must be a permanent resident, of the age of majority in Ontario at the time of entry, and not an employee of, a member of the immediate family of, or domiciled with an employee or Board member of any division of traffic marketing + design inc. or an employee or Board member of their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and agencies.


9.1 Beginning at 12:01 AM (EST) on November 18, 2019 participants can enter the “Shop1km Holiday Gift Basket” Contest by completing the ballot provided in the Shop1km book. A sticker is required to validate the ballot, additional stickers will equal additional chances to win. If you wish to enter without a sticker, you may by writing an essay of not less than 500 words on the topic of “Why Shopping Local is Important” and emailing it to

9.2 Entries that are incomplete will be disqualified.

9.3 All entries shall become the property of traffic marketing + design inc. traffic marketing + design inc. shall not be responsible for entries that are lost, misdirected or delayed. Entries received by any other method (phone, fax, courier, e-mail) will not be accepted.


10.1 Entrants are eligible to win one (1) Holiday Gift basket in each of three areas. 1 gift basket to be awarded in Leslieville,1 gift basket to be awarded in Roncesvalles and1 gift basket to be awarded in The Junction. Gift basket value and items included to be determined by what merchants provide and no guarantees are provided as to value or items included.

10.2 The prize is non-transferable and non-assignable. The prize must be accepted as awarded and cannot be substituted or redeemed for cash.

10.3 The Holiday Gift basket will be awarded in person.


11.1 Draw Date: December 20, 2019.

11.2 The winner will be selected in a random draw from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The draw will take place on December 20, 2019 at 1:00pm EST at the offices of traffic marketing + design inc.

11.3 The selected entrant will be notified by email or by telephone no later than 5pm on December 20, 2019. The winner has until 5pm on January 3rd to confirm receipt of the notification or acceptance of the Prize by the stated deadline or the winner forfeits the Prize and the Prize will then be awarded to an alternate winner selected by random draw from all remaining eligible entries.

11.4 To win, the contestant must first correctly answer a time-limited, skill-testing question.

11.5 The decisions of the contest judges are final. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred. The prize winner has the sole responsibility of paying any taxes connected to the prize, if any.

11.6 The eligible winner of the prize must sign a declaration and release form releasing traffic marketing + design inc. from any liability arising from the acceptance of the prize and confirming compliance with contest rules.


12.1 This offer is void where prohibited by law. Chances of winning are solely dependent on the total number of eligible entries received. This contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations and participation in the contest indicates acceptance of all contest rules and regulations.

12.2 By entering the contest, entrants consent to the use of their names, city of residence, photograph and/or image on videotape for publicity purposes by traffic marketing + design inc. without payment or compensation.

12.3 As this contest permits entries to be received via e-mail or Internet, no responsibility will be taken for any failure of the website during the promotion or for any problems or technical malfunction of a telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail, on-line or Internet entry to be received by traffic marketing + design inc. on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion. traffic marketing + design inc. reserves the right, in its sole discretion; to cancel or suspend the Internet portion of this contest should a virus, bug or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of traffic marketing + design inc. corrupt the security or proper administration of the contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this promotion is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made traffic marketing + design inc. reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent of the law, including criminal prosecution. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, mechanically reproduced, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.

12.4 In order to be declared a winner, the selected entrant(s) must sign and return a standard declaration and release form confirming compliance with Contest Rules and Regulations, consenting to the use, without further compensation, of winner’s name, address (city only) and photograph(s) in any Contest-related publicity and releasing traffic marketing + design inc. and its respective agencies, affiliates, parent(s), subsidiaries, agents, advertising and promotion agencies and anyone else involved in the development, production or handling of the Contest and their respective directors, officers, employees and assigns from all liability arising in connection with the Contest or the acceptance, use or redemption of the Prize as awarded.

12.5 The declaration and release must be returned to traffic marketing + design inc. within five (5) days after receipt.

12.6 By entering, all entrants agree to adhere to, and abide by, these Contest Rules and Regulations. The decisions of traffic marketing + design inc. with respect to any Contest matter are final.

12.7 These are the official Contest rules. This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and bylaws.

12.8 The personal information collected, used and disclosed is necessary for the administration of the Contest and is in accordance with the provisions of Part 3 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Ontario).
